Basics of the NBN

The NBN is Australia's high speed broadband network.  It replaces the existing ADSL internet services most of us are familiar with.  It means faster internet speeds which we all want!  The NBN is slowly being rolled out across Australia with more and more suburbs coming online.  Even though we cannot predict when the NBN will be in your area, its a very good idea to plan for the NBN and we can help with an NBN ready phone system, using existing copper infrastructure,

The NBN is owned by a company called NBN Co.  They arrange to have equipment installed across Australia and optical fibre to provide the infrastructure for the high speed service.  Sometimes they install the termination point into your home or business in the form of a white box on the wall, or it will terminate to the node which is a central point close to your premises and the last stretch of the service is pushed over your existing copper cabling which you currently use.

We can then assist with signing you up with Commander to use an internet service which you pay monthly, similar to your ADSL service.  There are different packages you can have depending on your requirements for speeds and downloads.  Commander send you out a new modem/router which you connect into your existing computer network and your ready to go.

Generally once NBN is in your area you will receive a letter to advise that the NBN is now available.  Approximately you will have 6 months to organise to move your existing telephony and adsl phone lines to the NBN before they are disconnected.

The way forward for telephony is in voice calls over the NBN/Internet, which is setup with a standard called SIP which is a method of communication used for business phones and systems, which support plans provided by Telco's such as Commander.  If you are migrating to the NBN, now is the time to get us in and see if your telephone system supports the latest technology.
